Abstract Key message Larch trees respond to stand opening with an approximately 4-year delay of growth, and low precipitation in July limits radial growth after a windthrow event . Precise cross-dating disturbance events is crucial understanding the functioning forest stands, may help explain ongoing ecological processes forest. Tree rings are very often used reconstruct history disturbances study response climatic factors. This analyzed how quickly European larch can benefit from abrupt change catastrophic extent trees’ sensitivity climate. The based on cores 83 collected post-disturbance 100 ha plot established windstorm 2004 Slovakian High Tatras.
